When I love
I want to look at you
like the child with large brown benevolent eyes
that stares at you with curiosity, interest and excitement
at a market in a small third world village
I want to touch you
like the wing of a pelican gently swings through the air
circling on the lookout for fish
in the shallow turquoise sea
I want to caress you
like the warm summer wind gently sweeps
over the golden wheat fields
softly bending the stalks
I want to whisper in your ear
like the everlasting ocean waves that roll ashore
telling a never-ending story
of persistence and timelessness
I want to kiss you
like a sunbeam tickles your nose and eyes
on a hot tropical morning
when you first get out of bed and stretch
I want to set you free
like a majestic bird in the sky,
free to fly anywhere and
also free to return
I want to give you presents
like the air that you breathe, the sand between your toes,
the scent of the forest and
a dream that keeps you reaching for the stars.
